Tips, Ties And Tactics Winter Fly Fishing: Tips to Keep You Fishing Not Freezing
Posted by fliesandfinseast on Monday, November 13 @ 22:20:54 PST

It is that time of year when the heavy coats and fleece layers come out. This winter don't let the weather keep you from hitting the water. Here are a few simple tips that will help you next time the mercury is hovering around 30 degrees. Frozen guides can make your hands wet and cold from de-icing every other cast. Try spraying non stick cooking spray lightly on the guides. This will keep them from freezing quickly. Also try switching from floating line to running line. It is a little bit thinner than regular fly line so not as much ice is building around your guides.

Theremal body warmers, they are not just for your hands anymore. A few companies make a belt that looks like a lumbar support but it has heating pads in it. The belt begings working once you put it on and lasts all day. Wrap this around your lower back and it will keep your core warm which in turn will keep the rest of you warmer. Keep moving try a run for ten to fifteen minutes then move to the next it is easier to stay warm when you blood is circulating. I hope these tips keep you on the water longer next time the winter wind is howling please add addtional comments.

If you are nymph fishing with an indicator try using foam, cork or a baloon instead of the yarn. The yarn tends to freeze once it has been in the water for too long and will sink.

My feet see to always freeze while the rest of my body stays warm. Are there any special socks which will prevent this from happening? Any other clothing tips?
