Fly Fishing Knots: Connecting Fluorocarbon To Mono
Posted by crazy on Friday, November 24 @ 06:16:55 PST
I have had some bad experiences with fluorocarbon tippet materials breaking at or pulling apart at the knot when tying it to a mono leader. I had used a standard surgeons knot (double overhand knot). Problem solved, I have since used the triple surgeons knot with great success. This will even work with materials that are not close in diameter. Wet the knot well before pulling it tight and the triple surgeons will do you well.

Re: Fly Fishing Knots: Connecting Fluorocarbon To Mono by AvidDavid on Friday, November 24 @ 09:13:57 PST | | Thank you crazy. I was beginning to think that I was crazy after my earlier post. You may have settled the issue once and for all. If I am correct, Joey has been a proponent of the triple surgeon's knot for some time. I have been using the triple for roughly a year (after several failures at the double surgeons knot) and can say that I have had no failures with the triple knot (except in battles with trees... and these don't count). |

If you find yourself in that situation again try a blood knot instead. |
