Fly Fishing Excuses: How To Ask For Permission
Posted by fliesandfinseast on Wednesday, December 13 @ 13:55:37 PST
It is a difficult and sometimes nerve racking moment in a fly fishermen’s life when he or she must ask permission to go fly fishing. We all have to do it one way or another whether it is asking your boss for a day off or pleading with your significant other about going to the river. I think sometimes I am out of ammo when I am scheming my next fly fishing trip. I always think of certain angles that I can play that will allow me to get
on the river. Some how I always seem to make it happen, granted my girlfriend is never overly excited to lose me to fish for a few days but, I manage to make her understand that it is my last time for a while. There are many sayings that work and many that do not. Let’s hear you best excuse and how it has gotten you a day on the water.

Re: Fly Fishing Excuses: How To Ask For Permission by jason-c on Wednesday, December 13 @ 16:53:14 PST http://www.fliesandfinswest.com | Once, a girl friend told me that I could
"#$% a fish" if I went fishing again. I stress ONCE. After that I did not need to provide any more excuses-She was quickly demoted to X-girl friend. Now I am much more careful. |

Re: Fly Fishing Excuses: How To Ask For Permission by wildWES on Wednesday, December 13 @ 20:08:55 PST | I have yet to need an excuse, as my girlfriend usually starts work at around 2pm and works until 10pm, so I have most of the evenings to myself. I did however break the news to her that I was taking a twelve hour drive to maine for a few days on the Allagash this next spring. Her head whipped right around and I though, "Here it goes!" but much to my surprise and pleasure she said (with a hearty grin) "Well than I am going to need a rod sweetheart !"
WOW... no excuse needed there, the only thing I need to give her is a rod, reel, and RING! |

Re: Fly Fishing Excuses: How To Ask For Permission by joey on Thursday, December 14 @ 07:17:26 PST | | My girlfriend is usually pretty understanding about me leaving and I don't get that much greif from her. But it usually costs me dinner when I get back. if I do get some static from her I play the "its going to be the last time for a while" card and it usually works. |

Re: Fly Fishing Excuses: How To Ask For Permission by Boz on Thursday, December 14 @ 09:51:29 PST | My wife seems to understand that when the fishing is on...I'm gone. If she didn't understand she probably would've never become my wife.
She gets upset sometimes, because she wants to be on the water too.

Re: Fly Fishing Excuses: How To Ask For Permission by skitch976 on Thursday, December 14 @ 13:29:16 PST | My excuse is, "You started it." My wife actually got me into flyfishing about 4 years ago, so I married her. Most of the time the only complaint I get is that she doesn't like me going without her, even if I have a day off and she doesn't.
So my recommendation is to find someone who will fish with you for life. It is working great for me. |

Re: Fly Fishing Excuses: How To Ask For Permission by Luke on Thursday, December 14 @ 23:57:59 PST | | All I can do is laugh on this one. I have two small children so when I leave home for a few days my wife has to deal with a lot. God bless her. Fortunately for me she is quite understanding MOST of the time. she knew all of this before she married me so no excuses. I try my best to make sure I reciprocate. Either I'm really good at it or she is just an awesome wife. Because I get to fish a good bit. I hope to get her into flyfishing someday so that maybe she'll understand. I am truly blessed to have her and my two children who will hopefully come to enjoy flyfishing as much as I do someday. Joey and I have termed the art of asking for permission as "building up equity." It actually refers to the critical few days leading up to when you actually ask for permission. |

There is a mutal apprieciation and respect there that will stand the test of time. |

Re: Fly Fishing Excuses: How To Ask For Permission by TheMidge on Saturday, December 30 @ 11:12:51 PST | | This used to be a problem...... until I began having health problems. The Doctor explained that they were all due to stress and said I needed to find an outlet for it. (if anyone lives in mass I can give you his name) The man is a saint. I simply pointed out to my wife that there are no greens fee's involved with fly fishing. She still isn't thrilled about the anual week long trip with the buddies to Grand Lake Stream every spring, but sneaking off to the stream on a friday afternoon sure has gotten a lot easier! |
