Great Lakes Steelhead: When To Come And Where To Go?
Posted by KodiakCommando on Wednesday, January 10 @ 17:11:00 PST
After speding a few years visiting flies and fins and some other fishing sites I have put Great Lake Steelhead on my to do list. I have noticed the fishing could still be hot when my fishing is very slow so a trip down there could be within a few years, maybe even this fall. Obviously I would love to hook up with other flies and fins members and thought I would ask a few questions. First off when is the peak if there is one?
I am pretty much free after mid October so if the best time is after than i'm all set. Also where is the best river that other members frequent, I know that's a tough question because of opinions. Do you have any recomendations on where to stay, the cheaper the better as i don't care about first class accomidations!

Re: Great Lakes Steelhead: When To Come And Where To Go? by joey on Thursday, January 11 @ 11:42:47 PST | | I would have to say that the month of November and into December is a good time to make a trip. Of course weather always plays a factor. But those 2 months have always produced well for me. If you go to Upstate NY there are plenty of Cheap places to stay. The Salmon river flows through the town of altmar down to pulaski. But there are other tribs around there that produce good numbers of fish if the levels are right. let us know if you are making the trip and we'll try and meet you. |

You may want to check out your options on Lake Michigan tribs such as the Pere Marquette, Muskegon, White and the Big and Little Manistee. These rivers are closer to you, therefore less travel time and cheaper aifare. |
