Tips, Ties And Tactics Two Fly Set Up: From The Bend Or The Eye
Posted by joey on Monday, January 29 @ 11:38:46 PST

I just read an article that had me questioning different ways to set up a 2 fly rig. I generally like to tie my trailing fly off the bend on the hook off the lead fly. The article I read however had the trailing fly tied at a 90 degree angle off the eye of the lead fly. Has anyone tried this? it seems to me that it has a higher probablity of tangling. Thanks.

I have not tried that set-up. It seems to me that it would be more apt to tangle than anything. i may have to give it a try sometime.

I tried off the eye once. It wasn't pretty. Never again for me.

Have never tried this method, but I have used an extra long tag end off of my surgeon knot when tying in tippet. If you leave the extra long tag end long enough, you can tie your front running fly from that and the dropper from the end of the tippet. I've used this particular setup on numerous occasions and have never had a problem with tangles.
