Tips, Ties And Tactics Fly Tying: Favorite Flies On The Vise
Posted by fliesandfinseast on Monday, February 05 @ 05:12:43 PST

I have been tying flies quite a bit lately and thought I would ask all you tiers out there what your favorite patterns are to tie. The simpler the better. Right now I have been trying to stock up on my Conehead Woolly Buggers and Midges. The Olive Conehead Woolly is my favorite streamer thus far to spin up. It is not hard to tie but comes out looking like a champ. The Midges I have been tying are called RS2's and they are small (#22) but also simple to spin. You can tie them in either grey or black, although I prefer them in grey. What are your favorite patterns to tie?

I have to agree with your olive conehead wooly's that is a sweet pattern to tie and you can never have enough. I enjoy tying a John Goddard pattern called the tadpolly. it slays fish size 12-16 black/brown/olive. I also like to tie up elk hair caddis variants also. I mostly like to visualize the fish eating my fly as I tie them that's what keeps me going.

I have been tying a lot of beadheaded princes lately...I don't know why..anyways does anyone have any websites or favorite places to get different fly patterns? Has anybody tried the pom poms for egg imitations? I took some from my daughter and ran a hook through it and it looked pretty dang good.
