Steelhead Locations: Finding Chrome Closer To Home
Posted by shanechild on Thursday, February 22 @ 04:42:42 PST
I am originally from MI and have been blessed each year with ample opportunities to fish Great Lakes Steelhead. Unfortunately, my wife and I had to move to Virginia for a few years and I'm dying to hook up with some steelhead! I'm willing to drive, but I can't afford to drive all the way to MI. Does anyone have any suggestions about locations to do some fly fishing within a 6 hour or so radius of the Richmond, VA area? I'd prefer to fish steelies, but realize that I'd likely have to drive over 10 hours to get near the great lakes. I'm on Spring Break for a week beginning near the 1st of March and I'm itching to wet a line. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I usually fish in NY on the Lake Ontario Tributaries and from VA that is about 8-8.5hrs away. Just south of that about 1.5-2hrs are the Lake Erie Tributaries that also get a good run of Steelhead. I have never fished them before but hear they are real good. Good luck with your quest and let us know how you do. |
