New York Brown Trout: Flies, Lines & Rods
Posted by KodiakCommando on Friday, March 16 @ 06:31:47 PDT
It looks like I'm gonna be making a trip to WNY for some big brownies this fall in early November. What type of flies would you recommend for this trip and what type of rod, reel and line setup?

A 7 or 8 wt is fine. I have never gone to NY just to target browns, just steelhead. But have certainly caught a ton while trying to trick steel. I have had luck drifting glo-blugs along the bottom, using a floating line. Orange with a red dot and Oregon Cheese work well. There are alot of salmon eggs in the river that time of year so any egg pattern won't hurt. Good luck I am sure you will slay 'em.
