Tips, Ties And Tactics Fly Boxes: The Easiest Way To Store Your Flies
Posted by fliesandfinseast on Tuesday, April 03 @ 14:09:17 PDT

I currently used multiple fly boxes for different situations. For example I have a steelhead box, a nymph box and a dry fly box. But then there is the streamer box, then the salt water box and other boxes that have random flies here and there. My question to you is has anyone found a good system for storing thier flies? My method was working well until my flies took over many of my boxes (or my boxes got too small). I saw a system by Scientific Angler that uses one big box with removable sleves that go into a waterproof case. It looked quite handy, but I am still trying to think of flaws before I commit. Any advice?

I tried the SA system and I didn't like it. for one you have all kinds of these inserts to keep track of and it ends up being more work than it's worth in my opinion. You always need to change up flies regardless. I find the multiple fly box system is better. For me anyways. my .02

I'm still going with separate boxes for the most part. I just upgraded all of them this fall though. Went with something waterproof so I would lose less flies to rust after a swim. The Orvis watershed series. Nice boxes. They had one box in particular that caught my interest because it was more versatile. It has one side with dry fly compartments and the other with a nymph foam strip and dropper rig sleeve. You can fit small streamers and larger nymph patterns. I liked the dropper rig part the best. It saves time by having them pre rigged. So far I like all of the other boxes as well. I think it is tough to get away from the multiple box setup.
