Northern Maine Brook Trout: Reccomended Patterns
Posted by fliesandfinseast on Tuesday, May 29 @ 16:05:27 PDT
What are you best brook trout patterns? I am heading to North Western Maine in a few weeks and would like to catch some bright brookies. In the past I have had good luck with Olive Woolly Buggers, I will have plenty of those in my box, any other suggestions?

I have had an amazing amount of hits from Brookies on fluorescent green/orange twist-on strike indicators from the "O" company... even in South Central Maine. I bet that if I put a hook on one, I would do pretty well!
One advantage.... You don't need to keep applying floatant!

Also try prospecting with a Professor wet fly. They have a yellow-body and Brookies love them. Brookies also like orange and yellow grasshoppers. And don't forget Doodle Bugs or Devil bugs.
For streamers, I'd go smaller and brighter. Like there is a Proffessor streamer....a Roayal Coachman Streamer. Try a size 8 with a silver body a bit of yellow buctail as an under wing and a Mallard or Wood duck flank feather tied as an over wing....flat wing style. That should be the ticket. good luck..... |
