Attractor Nymphs: Get Trout's Attention
Posted by fliesandfinseast on Monday, September 03 @ 13:27:26 PDT
This weekend I was fly fishing a river in an area that is probably 2 weeks ahead weather wise. I have fished this tailwater before in September (later in the month) and did well with egg patterns. I noticed that a few brown trout were jumping to loosen the eggs in thier bellys for the spawn in the up comming months. Seeing this, I tied on a micro eg trailed by a RS2 and had instant success.
Although none of the fish ate the egg, I am a strong believer that the egg got the fishes attention enabling it to hone in on the trailed fly. I have used this method in the past and think that it is a good technique to use especially on cloudy days and when the water clarity is not the best. Give it a shot next time on the water. I think you'll like the results.

When you make your cast keep an eye on your brightly colored fly and wait for it to make an un-natural movement. Tailwaters often hold very selective trout and even a white indicator will put them down. Give it a shot.
